For starters, this device has some things going for it but it also has some things that need to be addressed. The Heltec V4 at the core is a great node, although it is power hungry, it will get you through about a day and a half with a 3500mAh 18650. The front and sides are solid and feel well built, but it’s when you turn it over you notice it’s deficiency. The plastic coverused to enclose the aluminum case is very thin and seems like an afterthought. A matching anodized aluminum backplate would have been much nicer. The Meshtastic software loaded with effort, I had to dig around to find a firmware version that supports the TFT display, and use the factory esp32 flashing tool to load it. Once loaded , I realized a limitation, that can hopefully be fixed with a new firmware update. You CANNOT use BLE while running the MUI. You have to boot into either a programming mode or load the Base UI (loosing a lot of the features of the touchscreen.) that would be alright, except the screen turns on when touched and this causes inadvertent interactions with the unit. Same issue with WiFi, cannot be used while running MUI.(it connects to your AP but will not be reachable by IP address) I’d like to be able to toggle the BLE from the units home tab on screen like the WiFi toggle, hopefully this is addressed in a new firmware update.
